This premise is absolutely applicable to Canopus.
Where he comes from is unknown beyond the fact that it lies somewhere deep in space. The technology at his command allows him control over the fundamental forces of the universe.
His ability to control gravity and kinetic forces at a thought are formidable. With these technologies, he can open wormholes at a thought, control local gravity, and generate fields that repel all but the most powerful Earth weapons.
While his motives remain inscrutable, there are indications that he has arrived on Earth to combat the Rikti, though his being the only one of his people here, and even his own occasional admission, indicates he is something of a pariah for taking this path.
