Hoshi Masamune's life started out normal enough. Her grandmother was present at ground zero of the Nagasaki atomic bombing and was the lone person in the area to remain completely unscathed. She was studiously pored over by Japanese and American scientists as to how she survived the direct impact of the blast. No immediate conclusions were reached, as her physiology appeared to be medically and scientifically normal. She was released.
While flying over Japan to investigate a Rikti site that was reported in Russia, J'rel Prestoo noticed a huge burst of gamma radiation on his ship's radars and investigated the source. At the scene, all he found were the scorched and irradiated skeletal remains of those in Hoshi's immediate vicinity.
After clearing permission from US authorities to transport this living WMD, J'rel took Hoshi to Paragon City to use his technological prowess to assist her in harnassing and honing her abilities.
